The Georgia Senate runoff election is all but over. At time of writing, while the major outlets are being understandably cautious about making big calls, Rev. Raphael Warnock has claimed victory over Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Decision Desk HQ has called the count for Jon Ossoff, who is leading Sen. David Perdue.
This would mean both of Georgia's senate seats have flipped from Republican incumbents to the Democrats, making up the crucial 49th and 50th blue seats required for an evenly split Senate where incoming Vice-President Kamala Harris can give the Democrats a tie-breaking vote. (Yes, Joe Manchin still exists — but shhhh, let people enjoy things.)
As the count rolled through into Tuesday night, left-leaning Twitter enjoyed a tentative wave of relief and triumph, led by celebrations of Warnock's victory — he'll be Georgia's first Black Senator — and yet more well-deserved praise for Stacey Abrams' incredible voter registration and re-enfranchisement efforts.
And then someone dug through Ossoff's old early-2010s tweets.
No, it wasn't a B**n Dad-esque wave of shitty edgelord "jokes." The now-33-year-old Ossoff, it appeared, was (or is?) an Imagine Dragons fan.

Yes, Georgia's likely new senator has been caught simping for the Nickelback of the 2010s.

This isn't necessarily a harbinger of dubious taste — Ossoff's old production company helped produce a documentary about a Sierra Leone playwright with Imagine Dragons drummer Daniel Platzman in 2006. Which is actually nice. Good on them.

The old tweets prove little more than the fact that Ossoff is actually just a huge fuckin' nerd, bless him.

Of course, once the Imagine Dragons tweet popped up Twitter had fun trying to dig up what other music takes a skinny white guy born in 1987 might have had at various points during the 2010s.

It's possible he has had far worse takes at various points — haven't we all? — and these are just the ones he (and/or his interns) forgot about or chose to leave up.
But if thistweet's anything to go by, he's been posting with the caution of the politically ambitious since 2012.

He thought it would be a full 15 years? So modest. (If elected, Ossoff will be the youngest senator since now President-elect Joe Biden.)
Of course this is all good fun, but it doesn't mean shit when Americans are dying because they can't get healthcare, or enough money to live, or enough literal oxygen. If Ossoff can become that last crucial vote to give Democrats the balance of power in the Senate, he and his fellow representatives actually a chance to do something about it. Imaginethat.
